What is tempered glass?
Tempered (toughened) glass is regular glass that's been heat-treated to be roughly four to five times stronger than standard glass of the same thickness. It's the standard choice for the vast majority of shower screens — including every model in our range — because it handles daily knocks, water weight, and door-sliding stress well. If tempered glass does break, it shatters into small, relatively blunt granules rather than sharp shards, which is why it's classified as a safety glass.
What is laminated glass?
Laminated glass is made of two (or more) sheets of glass bonded together with a clear plastic interlayer (usually PVB) in between. If it breaks, the glass pieces stay stuck to the interlayer instead of falling apart — so the pane stays roughly intact even when cracked. This is the same technology used in car windshields.
Which should you choose?
For most Hong Kong households, standard tempered glass is more than sufficient — it's what's fitted as standard across our range, and what the vast majority of customers choose. Laminated glass is worth considering if you have young children, want extra reassurance in a shared or rental property, or simply prefer the added peace of mind.
